Introduction

Woo Young Choi is the head of the corporate litigation team at Hwang Mok Park P.C. Mr. Choi graduated from Seoul National University, College of Law(LL.B. 1984) and University of Virginia, School of Law(LL.M. 1995). He was admitted to the Korean Bar Association in 1989 and also to the New York Bar Association in 1999. He was one of the founding partners of Hwang Mok Park in 1993. He was appointed as a managing partner of the firm in 2014.

Mr. Choi has been engaged in various types of litigation or arbitration in corporate & commercial disputes and cross-border claims and has represented major domestic and foreign corporate clients for over twenty years. Mr. Choi has accomplished excellent records of success in important and complicated litigation on corporate matters, international taxation and commercial disputes.

He has handled many insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings as well as rehabilitation procedures for major corporate clients since 1997. In addition, he has actively worked for foreign clients in cross-border disputes such as Agent Orange litigation, airplane crash case, etc for over ten years. Especially, he has handled many mediation cases relating to disputes on dealership or exclusivity and medical claims for domestic or foreign clients

He has been listed among Chambers Asia-Pacific Leading Individuals (Dispute Resolution-Litigation) since 2009 as well as among the world’s leading commercial litigators by Who’s Who Legal in 2012. He has served as a member of the Organization Committee of IPBA 2013 Seoul Conference and the International Committee in Korea Bar Association and an arbitrator in Korean Commercial Arbitration Board. He has also actively participated in the meetings and activities of Lex Mundi, the world’s leading association of independent law firms, in which HMP has the sole membership in Korea. He was nominated as the Regional Vice-Chair of Lex Mundi Litigation Arbitration & Dispute Resolution Practice Group in Asia-Pacific Region in 2014.
